Psalm 106

Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, But rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea. Nevertheless He saved them for His name's sake, That He might make His mighty power known. He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up; So He led them through the depths, As through the wilderness. He saved them from the hand of him who hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. The waters covered their enemies; There was not one of them left. Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,

(Psalms 106:7-13)

Seeing God’s great power displayed, the children of Israel BELIEVED GOD’S WORDS and SANG GOD’S PRAISE. This is good. What happened next is not. What happened next is actually very bad. THEY SOON FORGOT HIS WORKS and THEY DID NOT WAIT FOR HIS COUNSEL.

There is a pattern that we see develop through out scripture, a pattern of FORGETFULLNESS among the people of God. When God works in our lives in visible, tangible ways, we shout and cheer, and promise to obey His commands. But, sooner than later, we forget what He has done, and as a result, we stop listening to His voice.

Now, the greatest thing that God has done for each one of us is DYING ON THE CROSS for our sins and RISING AGAIN so we can have new life in Him. If we REMEMBER this truth, it AFFECTS the WAY WE LIVE, and the WAY WE RESPOND TO HIS WORD. When we lose sight of the cross and the resurrection, then we quickly slide back into modes of living that are selfish and self-motivated.

The only way to avoid this problem that plagued the Israelites is to COME BACK TO THE CROSS DAILY. We need to keep Jesus and what He did before us at all times. So my friends preach the gospel to yourselves and each other everyday! Don’t neglect the “SO GREAT SALVATION” that the Bible tells us all about; LIVE IT!
