2 Samuel 7

"When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever." ' "

(2Sa 7:12-16)

In this passage of scripture we have one of the greatest promises that God EVER MADE. Bible scholars and theologians refer to this as the “Davidic Covenant”; which is just a fancy way of saying the covenant that God made with David. This promise is yet to have its ultimate fulfillment, and it has VERY REAL implications for us today. You see, we live in a world today with MANY NATIONS, and MANY KINGDOMS. Here the promise is that FOREVER someone from the line of David would sit on the throne in Israel.

If we look at the heritage of Jesus, we see that He is a direct descendant of David. As our Messiah, Jesus is the ULTIMATE FULFILLMENT of this prophecy. Jesus is the one who sits on the throne today, ruling Israel and the entire world. There is coming a day in the not-so-distant future when Jesus will return, and He will take his place as the rightful heir of David’s throne. For 1000 years he will govern this world, and be the TRUE leader of a one-world government. Though this world will then come to an end, His rule and authority will never come to an end.

Though Jesus isn’t ruling on a physical throne today, He is our spiritual king. We can be a part of His kingdom now… In fact, we are His ambassadors. Today, remember that above all powers, rulers and thrones, Jesus reigns supreme. Give yourself to Him as His servant, and allow Him to use you in a very real way. We may live in America, but our primary allegiance is to the kingdom of God, and our leader is Jesus. I pray that each one of us will be a good representation of Him to the citizens of earth.
